Journeymen Welcome
Bread & Bed for Work – The Tradition Lives
Schloss Gültz maintains the centuries-old journeyman tradition. Craftsmen on their Walz find accommodation and meals with us in exchange for skilled help restoring this historic monument.
The Journeyman Tradition
The journeyman travels – called "Walz" – is a traditional wandering after completing apprenticeship. For at least three years and a day, journeymen travel to work with various masters.
Since 2015, the journeyman tradition is UNESCO World Heritage. Journeymen wear traditional attire: black trousers, white shirt, black hat and the Stenz (walking staff).
"He who has not seen foreign lands cannot understand much about home."
